Güstrow Mourns Eight-Year-Old Fabian at Emotional Funeral Service
Hundreds of residents gathered at St.Mary’s Church in Güstrow on October 30, 2025, to say goodbye to eight-year-old Fabian, whose death has shaken the community. The service followed the finding of Fabian’s body in a forest near Güstrow on October 14th, four days after he was reported missing. Authorities have confirmed he was the victim of a violent crime, and a search for the perpetrator remains ongoing.
The loss of a child is a tragedy that reverberates through any community, but Fabian’s death has uniquely impacted Güstrow, prompting an outpouring of grief and a demand for justice. During the service, Pastor Jens-Peter Schulz acknowledged the difficulty in comprehending the tragedy, stating, “All of this cannot be put into words. Fabian’s death touches us.” Güstrow’s mayor, Sascha Zimmermann, visibly moved, addressed the mourning congregation, questioning, “Who does something like that? There are no logical answers, no justification, no understanding for such a crime.” He affirmed, “Fabian is a Güstrow child.We won’t forget him.”
The church accommodated approximately 550 mourners, with nearly 100 more following the service on an outdoor broadcast. A growing memorial of candles and cuddly toys had been established in the church in the days leading up to the funeral.A preliminary funeral service was held on October 14th, immediately following the discovery of Fabian’s body.
