Potsdam and Backnang Claim German Judo Bundesliga Titles
Potsdam, Germany – UJKC Potsdam secured teh men’s German Judo Bundesliga championship title, while TSG Backnang triumphed in the women’s division, concluding the team competitions on sunday before a crowd of 3,500 spectators. This victory marks a historic moment for Potsdam, overcoming years of semi-final defeats and establishing them as the second club from Brandenburg to achieve this feat.
The UJKC Potsdam team defeated JSV Speyer 8-6 in the northern relay final, earning their place in the gold duel against Remscheid. Key victories from Martin Setz, Tim Gramkow, Tim Schmidt, and Ivaylo Ivanov propelled Potsdam to a 4-3 lead at halftime.Further successes in the second round from Noel Schmidt, Tim Schmidt, Krisztian Toth, and Ivaylo Ivanov ultimately sealed the championship for Potsdam. They join JC 90 Frankfurt (Oder), who previously won the men’s title in 1992, 1998, and 1999.
In the women’s competition,TSG Backnang defeated JSV Speyer 8-6,claiming their third championship title. This was the fourth consecutive year the women’s final featured Backnang and Speyer.
Potsdam’s win adds to brandenburg’s legacy in the judo Bundesliga, with PSG Dynamo brandenburg Mitte having previously secured the women’s title in 1999, 2006, 2009, and 2011, and UJKC Potsdam itself winning in 2005, 2007, and 2008. The results signal a continued competitive landscape within German judo and set the stage for next season’s challenges.
