oradea Airport Reports Strong First Quarter for Lufthansa Munich Route
Oradea International Airport is celebrating a successful launch for its Lufthansa service to Munich, Germany. In the first three months of operation – June, july, and August – the route carried 5,178 passengers on 80 round-trip flights. This performance contributes to what airport director Răzvan Horga calls “the best year in the history of Oradea Airport,” surpassing previous records.
The new route, operated under a four-year public service contract with the Bihor County Council, is proving a key driver in the airport’s growth. Lufthansa utilizes Bombardier-Mitsubishi aircraft with 90 seats (including three in Business class) for the service. The flights achieved an average occupancy rate of 63 passengers per trip, representing 70% of the aircraft’s capacity. No flights were canceled, and only five experienced delays exceeding 35 minutes.
“The first month, June, was one of accommodation, August was amazing. It’s very good, without question I’m optimistic,” Horga told Bihor.
Overall passenger numbers at Oradea Airport have already reached 220,012 as of the end of last month, exceeding the previous record set in 2018, when the airport had a contract with Ryanair. The airport anticipates reaching 250,000 passengers by year-end. Currently, Oradea Airport operates over 40 flights weekly, including 10 international routes to Warsaw (LOT Polish Airlines), london (HiSky), and Munich (Lufthansa). Additional destinations in Germany and Italy are reportedly under consideration. Domestic routes are served by Tarom, HiSky, and AnimaWings.
