Argentina secures Team World Cup Qualification & Podium Finish at International Table Tennis Championship
Santiago,Chile – The Argentine national table tennis team achieved a historic double success this week,qualifying for the 2026 Team World Cup in London and returning home with a bronze medal in the menS doubles competition.The team’s performance at the recent international championship marks a important milestone for the program, bolstered by national support and the dedication of its athletes.
This qualification represents a major step forward for Argentine table tennis, guaranteeing participation on a global stage and providing invaluable competitive experience for the nation’s rising stars. Both the men’s and women’s teams earned their spots in the London tournament, signaling a growing strength within the sport across the country. Horacio Cifuentes led the charge, remaining undefeated against American Kanak Jha. Alongside teammate Santiago Lorenzo from Mendoza, Cifuentes secured a bronze medal in men’s doubles, falling to the Chilean pair of Nicolás Burgos and Gustavo Gómez in a closely contested semifinal match.
“It’s been 10 years with the senior team. Time flies and luckily I was able to give several medals to my country that has helped me so much in my career,so on that side I am happy to be able to return the support they have given me,” Cifuentes stated,reflecting on his decade of service and the team’s success.
