Bayern Faces “Madness” Debate Over Harry Kane‘s Future
MUNICH – A fierce debate is erupting in Germany over the future of Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane, with opinions sharply divided on whether to extend the Englishman’s contract despite concerns over his age. The discussion centers on a potential contract extension for Kane, who has exploded onto the Bundesliga scene, scoring 12 goals in just seven games this season and challenging Robert Lewandowski‘s single-season record of 41 goals set in 2020/2021.
Kane’s current deal, signed after replacing Lewandowski in 2023, runs through 2027, but includes a release clause allowing him to depart in the summer of 2026 for a reported €65 million – a figure considered a bargain given his current form.

Former German international Dietmar Hamann believes extending the contract would be “madness,” arguing, “It would be madness to extend the contract of a player who will be 34 years old when his current contract ends.” Hamann, also speaking to Bild, further questioned Kane’s impact in crucial matches, referencing England‘s past successes when he was not on the field, and calling for observation of Kane’s performance against top European competition like PSG and Arsenal.
