Güstrow, Germany – Investigators in the case of eight-year-old Fabian M.’s death are focusing on the fact that his body was hidden, not buried,at a pond near Güstrow, suggesting a hurried attempt to conceal the crime. The discovery, coupled with the identity of the person who found the body – Fabian’s father’s 29-year-old ex-girlfriend – is driving the examination, according to reports from Nordkurier.
The body was discovered at a secluded pond, a location possibly known to the perpetrator, according to experienced profiler Axel Petermann. “Perpetrators avoid risks and choose places that are familiar to them,” Petermann explained to Nordkurier. The decision not to bury the body indicates the perpetrator likely acted quickly, possibly fearing discovery. Traces of burns found at the site suggest a possible attempt to destroy evidence, tho whether the pond was the site of the crime itself remains unclear.
The individual who discovered Fabian’s remains is now a key focus of the investigation. “The person who finds the body is always of interest. you have to clarify why they were ther and whether their explanations are plausible,” petermann stated.Investigators are currently examining the ex-girlfriend’s reasons for being in the remote location.
Prior to the discovery,Fabian was reportedly instructed to stay home until his mother returned from work. The initial hours following a disappearance are critical, with investigators typically focusing on searching the home for hiding places or signs of violence, and interviewing family, friends, and teachers.
As of Monday, no arrests have been made in the case, according to the public prosecutor’s office. Axel Petermann, a former murder investigator with nearly 40 years of experience in german criminal police, is assisting in providing a psychological profile of the potential perpetrator. He notes that a perpetrator’s behavior following such an act varies depending on motive and personality, ranging from suppression of the crime to feelings of guilt and fear of detection, particularly if they are connected to the victim.
