SCAD Soccer Dominates Sun Conference Weekly Awards
TAMPA, Fla.- Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) men’s and women’s soccer players have been recognized for outstanding defensive performances, earning the Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second straight week. This dual recognition underscores SCAD’s growing strength within the conference and highlights the individual contributions driving their success.
Freshman goalkeeper Noa Sonntag and junior defender Emily lau were both lauded for their pivotal roles in SCAD’s recent contests. The awards reflect not only their individual skill but also the overall defensive strategies employed by the Bees, which have proven effective against challenging opponents.SCAD’s continued success is crucial as they navigate the remainder of the regular season and prepare for potential postseason play.
Sonntag, a freshman hailing from Freiburg, Germany, anchored the Bees’ defense during a 1-0-1 week. He recorded two saves in a 4-2 victory over ave Maria and followed up with an impressive five saves against No. 4 Keiser University, conceding only one goal in that challenging matchup. Sonntag’s consistent performance in goal has been instrumental in maintaining SCAD’s unbeaten record in Sun conference action.
Lau, a junior from frisco, Texas, spearheaded a defensive unit that limited Ave Maria to just two shots during a decisive 6-0 win. Beyond her defensive prowess, Lau contributed offensively with an assist in that game and scored her first collegiate goal against No. 1 Keiser, securing a tie for SCAD.
SCAD’s men’s soccer team will travel to St. Thomas University on Thursday,October 23,for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. The women’s team will host St. Thomas University on Wednesday, October 22, also at 7:00 p.m.
