Munich Airport Briefly Closed Twice Saturday Night Amid Unidentified Sightings
Munich, Germany – Munich Airport experienced two brief closures Saturday evening, October 7th, after reports of “suspicious perceptions” prompted air traffic control to suspend operations around 10 p.m.and again around 11 p.m., according to a federal police spokesman. It remains unclear whether the observations were related to drone activity.
Several individuals had previously alerted federal police to the sightings. While the cause is still under investigation, the disruptions led to the diversion of three flights late Saturday, though one was later able to land in Munich.
Airport officials state that flight operations are expected to return to normal Sunday morning, characterizing the overall impact as minor. This incident follows similar disruptions earlier in October, when air traffic was suspended on two consecutive evenings due to suspected drone sightings, affecting nearly 10,000 travelers and leaving some passengers to spend the night in the terminals on makeshift bedding.
