Akiba Festival Returns to Valdivia, Bringing Asian Pop Culture to Saval Park
VALDIVIA, Chile - The fifth edition of the Akiba Festival, a celebration of anime, K-pop, J-pop, and gaming culture, is set to take over Saval park in Valdivia on October 25th and 26th. The event, organized by the akiba Festival Group, will offer free entry to attendees from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.
What began in 2016 as a local gathering at the Escuela España gym has grown into a regional event attracting enthusiasts and performers from across Chile. This year’s festival, themed “The Last Empire,” aims to bridge traditional Asian culture with modern technology, creating a dynamic experience for both seasoned fans and newcomers.
“This festival is designed both for lovers of Asian culture and for those who are attracted to it, but have not yet had the chance to delve into it,” explained Mattías Escuvier, a member of the organizing team. President of the organizing group,Constanza Ojeda,added that the theme seeks “to create a dynamic that combines the ancestral with the contemporary.”
Attendees can expect a diverse range of activities, including dance performances, martial arts demonstrations, Asian cuisine, illustration stands, merchandise vendors, and video game stations. K-pop and J-pop music performances will also be featured, alongside appearances by Aki, the festival’s mascot – a friendly rabbit.
A key draw for this year’s event is the participation of Chilean influencer Pancha Sky, known for her work in gaming and technology, and formerly the face of Riot Games. her presence is expected to attract a notable digital community interested in the intersection of video games and artificial intelligence.
