Vandalism at Popular Gran Canaria Viewpoint Sparks Outrage
A recent act of vandalism at the barranco de las Vacas, a scenic viewpoint between Temisas and agüimes in Gran Canaria, has ignited a wave of criticism online. A video posted to TikTok by three tourists from Catalonia documented the discovery of a broken rear car window after their visit, as reported by La Provincia newspaper.
The vehicle was parked on the shoulder of the GC-550 highway. While it remains unconfirmed whether any items were stolen, the damage is expected to be costly due to high damage fees typically charged by car rental companies.
The TikTok video has garnered significant attention, nearing a million views (currently over 925,000), and prompted widespread condemnation. Some commenters have linked the incident to growing frustration with mass tourism and perceived disrespectful behavior by visitors.
Reports indicate this is not an isolated event, with similar incidents occurring at other viewpoints across the island.
the Barranco de las Vacas has become increasingly popular due to extensive coverage on social media platforms by tourists and content creators. However, this surge in visitors has also created issues for local residents, who express concerns about safety and congestion on the narrow GC-550, which lacks adequate parking facilities, and the increased risk posed by pedestrians walking along the roadway.
