Apple Announces 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Chip, Removes Charger from Box
Cupertino, CA – Apple today unveiled a new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M5 chip, boasting enhanced AI capabilities, but concurrently announced a cost-cutting measure that will require customers to purchase power adapters separately. The new laptop arrives with a starting price of €1799 adn is slated for release on Wednesday, October 22nd.
The shift to the M5 chip marks a critically important upgrade with the integration of a “neural accelerator” within each graphics chip core, designed to dramatically improve AI performance – mirroring a feature recently introduced in Apple’s A19 Pro. While memory options remain consistent with the previous generation (16 to 32 GB), storage configurations now include a 4 TB option, expanding capacity for demanding users. The display retains its Liquid Retina XDR miniLED technology, offering a 3024 x 1964 resolution, up to 120 Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness of 1600 nits in HDR.
However, Apple’s decision to discontinue inclusion of a power adapter represents a notable change for consumers. The omission, noted in the technical specifications, will require purchasers of the 70W-dependent laptop to factor in the additional cost of a charger. This move follows a similar decision made regarding iPhones, but carries a greater financial impact given the higher price point and power requirements of a professional laptop. The new macbook Pro M5 is priced at €1799,a reduction of €100 compared to the €1899 launch price of the MacBook Pro M4 in November 2024.
