Argentine Lamp Maker Weplight Illuminates Global Market with Lasting, Handcrafted Designs
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – From a family workshop in Buenos Aires, Weplight is bringing a unique blend of artisanal craftsmanship and technological innovation to the global lighting market. The company, with teams in both Spain and Argentina, specializes in custom-made luminaires distinguished by their exclusivity and commitment to sustainability.
Weplight’s catalog features approximately 20 core models – including pendant, table, and floor lamps – offered in a staggering 300 finish, shape, and color combinations, ensuring each piece is essentially one-of-a-kind. “Each lamp is unique. When making a custom product and with so much play on sizes and materials, it is very difficult for the products to be repeated, and that has always been a hallmark of the brand, along with the artisanal mark,” explains the company’s owner.
The brand operates without maintaining stock, assembling each order within 15 days of receipt. Production averages around 50 lamps per week, with all eight team members – five in Spain and four in Argentina – participating in every stage of the process, from wood laminating and dyeing to fitting and finishing. Even founder marcelo is involved in the assembly.
Weplight prioritizes environmental obligation, utilizing wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), guaranteeing sustainable forestry practices. Products also meet international sustainability standards like LEED and BREEAM.
Facing initial export budget constraints, Weplight ingeniously designed some of their lamps – reaching sizes comparable to surfboards – to fit within standard shipping cases, allowing them to personally transport products to international trade fairs. The company now also manufactures components in Barcelona and Buenos Aires for assembly in the United States and Australia, adhering to local regulations and certifications, with meticulous attention paid to packaging.
“In short, Weplight is more than a lamp brand: It is the result of a family legacy, care from the work team, a way of treating materials with respect, and a light that travels from Buenos aires to the world, crossing borders with the warmth of craftsmanship and the quality of technology,” the company states.
