Barbosa Secures Gold as Brazil Shines at IJF Pan American Open
Lima, Peru – October 8, 2025 – Brazil’s Rafael Barbosa claimed the gold medal in the -66kg category today at the International Judo Federation (IJF) Pan American open in Lima, Peru, leading a dominant performance by the Brazilian team. The victory marks a notable achievement for Barbosa and underscores Brazil’s growing strength in international judo competition.
The IJF Pan American Open serves as a crucial event for athletes across the Americas, offering ranking points and valuable competitive experience. The tournament draws judoka vying for qualification towards major championships, including the World judo Championships and the Olympic Games.Brazil’s strong showing in Lima signals their intent to be a major force on the global judo stage.
Following the medal presentations, Dr. Antonio Castro, IJF ambassador & Chair of the IJF Medical Commission, and Mr. Roger Principe, Sport Director of the Peruvian Institute of Sports, honored the athletes with medals, cheques, and flowers.
