The 44-year-old Qarada, a Paralympic champion from Paris, arrives in Cairo with a decorated resume including two gold and three silver medals from previous World Championships. Despite his past success, he’s looking to regain the top spot after losing to Vietnam’s Van Cong at the Dubai 2023 World Championships. Qarada will compete in the men’s up to 49kg category on wednesday, October 15.
Abdelkareem Khattab (Jordan)
Khattab, 34, is a force to be reckoned with in Powerlifting, holding both Paralympic and World titles. He boasts three gold medals and currently holds world records in both the up to 88kg (251kg, Dubai 2023) and up to 97kg (270kg, Paris 2024) categories. Khattab’s latest gold came at Paris 2024 in the up to 97kg event.He will compete in the men’s up to 97kg category on Thursday, October 16.
Tayana Medeiros (Brazil)
The 32-year-old Medeiros of Rio de Janeiro stunned the world at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, securing her first major championship gold medal in the women’s up to 86kg category with a Paralympic record lift of 156kg. Now, she sets her sights on earning her first medal at a World Championship. Medeiros will compete in the women’s up to 86kg category on Friday, October 17.
