New York Film Festival 2025 Offers Glimpse of International Cinema, adn a Bronx Chill
NEW YORK, NY - The 63rd New York Film Festival (NYFF) kicked off this week, bringing a diverse slate of films and filmmakers to Lincoln Center, but for at least one guest, the experiance extended beyond the silver screen to a surprising encounter with New York’s climate. A visitor from France, attending the festival, found the city’s subway system-and its air conditioning-a bit bracing.
the NYFF, running from September 26 to October 12, 2025, showcases a curated selection of international films, aiming to highlight both established auteurs and emerging talents. This year’s festival features works from across the globe, offering New York audiences a preview of potential Oscar contenders and critical darlings. Though, the journey to experience these films proved unexpectedly chilly for one attendee, who shared their experience of catching a cold thanks to the powerful AC on the Bronx-bound subway.
“They should turn the AC off on the train as I caught a cold,” the French visitor remarked, noting the strength of the air conditioning system. “The AC is really strong here; I don’t no how you do it.” The comment highlights a common observation for newcomers to New York - the frequently enough-aggressive air conditioning, even as seasons change.
The festival’s programming includes a retrospective honoring a major figure in contemporary cinema, alongside premieres of highly anticipated new releases.Photographer Frankie Alduino is documenting the event, capturing the atmosphere and key moments unfolding throughout the festival’s run.
Attendees can find more information about the festival, including the full schedule and ticket availability, on the NYFF website. Those interested in supporting film journalism can subscribe to New York Magazine, where coverage of the festival will also appear in the October 6, 2025, print issue.
