UK Music Venues pledge to run on 100% Renewable energy by 2025
LONDON – A coalition of leading UK music venues announced today, October 6, 2025, a commitment to transition to 100% renewable energy sources by the end of the year. The initiative, spearheaded by Music Venue Trust (MVT), aims to considerably reduce the environmental impact of the live music sector and establish a lasting future for grassroots venues across the country.
The move comes as the live music industry faces increasing scrutiny over its carbon footprint. Venues, often energy-intensive operations, contribute substantially to greenhouse gas emissions. This pledge addresses growing concerns from artists, fans, and industry professionals alike, and positions the UK as a leader in sustainable live music practices. MVT reports that over 200 venues have already signed up to the initiative, representing a significant portion of the UKS grassroots music ecosystem. The transition will be supported by a new partnership with energy providers specializing in renewable solutions, offering venues access to cost-effective and sustainable energy tariffs.
The project will involve a phased approach, beginning with energy audits to assess current consumption and identify areas for improvement. Venues will then switch to renewable energy suppliers and implement energy-efficient technologies, such as LEAD lighting and improved insulation. MVT is also exploring options for on-site renewable energy generation, such as solar panels, where feasible. The institution is actively seeking funding and support from goverment bodies and private investors to accelerate the transition and ensure its long-term viability.
