Charli XCX Posts cryptic Video Following Taylor Swift‘s Alleged Diss track
Pop star Charli XCX shared a puzzling video on social media shortly after the release of Taylor Swift’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department, fueling speculation that it’s a response to a pointed lyric widely believed to be about her. The video, posted to Instagram, features XCX lip-syncing to a distorted audio clip, with a deliberately unsettling visual aesthetic.
The exchange comes amid a long-simmering narrative of a fractured friendship between the two artists. Swift’s song “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” includes the line, “I heard you call me ‘Boring Barbie’ when the coke’s got you brave,” which many fans interpret as a direct reference to XCX, who has alluded to drug use in her music. The perceived diss has ignited a flurry of discussion online, with fans dissecting the history between Swift and XCX,including XCX’s past connection to Swift’s ex-boyfriend,Matty Healy.
XCX previously opened for Swift on the “Reputation” tour in 2018, and the pair even performed together onstage. However, their relationship reportedly cooled when XCX became romantically linked to Healy, lead singer of The 1975, and later married the band’s drummer, George Daniel. Despite the apparent tension, Swift publicly praised XCX’s 2024 album, Brat, telling Vulture she was “blown away” by the artist’s “surreal and inventive” songwriting. Swift was also seen enjoying XCX’s performance at the 2025 grammys in February.
The release of The Tortured Poets Department and the subsequent social media activity have thrust the artists’ dynamic back into the spotlight, leaving fans to speculate about the future of their relationship and whether XCX’s video is a direct response to Swift’s lyrics.
