Comet Lemmon: Best Viewing Times in NRW

Comet Lemmon to Grace ⁣NRW Skies, Perhaps Visible Without⁢ Telescopes

Bochum, Germany – Skywatchers in​ North Rhine-westphalia (NRW) have a rare opportunity this October to witness Comet ⁤C/2025 A6, nicknamed “Lemmon,” potentially wiht the naked eye.The comet, discovered in January 2025, is predicted to reach peak​ visibility in the second half of the month, offering a ⁤breathtaking celestial display.

According⁢ to Prof. dr. Susanne⁢ Hüttemeister from the ⁢Bochum planetarium, ⁤Lemmon is ⁢a “diffuse light spot” and,‍ under ideal conditions, its tail may ​also be visible. The best viewing⁣ window for NRW residents is anticipated between October 17th and October 26th, when the comet could be seen‍ even from urban areas.

The prime viewing period begins Monday, October 20th, coinciding with the new moon on October 21st, ​which will provide particularly ⁢dark skies. Observers‌ should look towards‌ the west shortly after dark,where Lemmon will appear at approximately 20 degrees above the horizon. On ‍October 20th, the comet will set around 11:07 p.m.in Bochum, with the ‌setting time shifting approximately ten minutes earlier each subsequent day. By November 1st, Lemmon will be visible at a⁣ lower angle of 13 degrees before becoming increasingly arduous to observe from NRW.
