Guwahati, India – The Yonex Sunrise BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championship commences Monday at the National Center of Excellence in Amingaon, with host nation India launching its bid against Nepal at 12 PM local time.
India, seeded second in the tournament, is grouped with the United arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, and Nepal in Group H for the Suhandinata Cup – the Mixed Team event. The Mixed team Championships will be held from October 6 to 11, followed by the Individual Championships for the Eye Level Cup, running from October 13 to 19.
Following the opening match against Nepal, India will face Sri Lanka on October 7 and conclude their group stage play against the UAE on October 8.
This year’s competition will utilize the BWF’s new relay scoring system.Each tie will be contested over three sets, requiring a team to reach 45 points to win a set. Each set features five matches – Boys’ Singles, Girls’ Singles, Mixed Doubles, Boys’ doubles, and Girls’ Doubles – played until a side scores 9 points, with the cumulative score carrying over to the next match. The first team to 45 points wins the set, and the tie is decided in a best-of-three format.
By hosting the championships, India becomes one of a select group of nations – including Malaysia, Indonesia, Canada, Spain, and China - to have hosted the BWF World Junior Championships on multiple occasions.
