Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein‘ and ‘Jay Kelly’⁤ Set for São Paulo Mostra International Film Festival

SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated “Frankenstein” and the Brazilian fiction film “Jay Kelly” are ⁤confirmed selections for the 2025 São Paulo⁢ Mostra International ‌Film Festival, marking the festival’s third year ​of official partnership with Netflix. The streaming giant will‌ award ​a prize​ to‌ one Brazilian ‍fiction film⁤ from the festival that hasn’t yet landed a streaming deal, later making the winning ‍film available in over ⁢190‌ countries.

The Mostra, which first hosted ⁤Netflix with Alfonso Cuarón’s “Roma” in 2018, has become a key platform for boosting the global reach of ‍Brazilian storytelling.In 2023, Netflix awarded it’s⁤ prize to Haroldo Borges’ “Bittersweet⁣ Rain” (“Saudade Fez Morada Aqui ⁢Dentro”), and in 2024, honored ⁣Lírio Ferreira’s​ “Serra das Almas.” Borges noted the impact of the Netflix deal, stating, “‘Saudade Fez⁣ Morada aqui Dentro’ on Netflix makes that word ‍of mouth ‌possible.”

This year, Netflix will ‌also showcase three original productions at the festival: “Piano Lesson” (U.S.), “Pedro Páramo” (México), and the Brazilian limited series “Children of⁣ the Church⁢ Steps.” ‍The selection of “Jay Kelly” as a Brazilian fiction film in competition positions it as a potential recipient of the Netflix award, offering significant international exposure.
