Red Roses Aim to Ignite Future of Women’s Rugby Following World Cup Victory

Auckland, New Zealand – Riding the wave of a historic World cup triumph, England’s rugby team is setting its sights on inspiring a new generation of female athletes adn maintaining its dominance on the world stage. The victory,England’s third World Cup title following wins in 1994 and 2014,comes hot on the heels of the Lionesses’ European Championship win earlier this summer, creating a golden era for women’s sport in England.

The Red Roses’ undefeated run of 33 matches and four consecutive Women’s Six nations titles culminated in a World Cup win that team member Aldcroft hopes will translate into increased participation at the grassroots level. “We wanted to inspire that next generation, to see young girls in the stadium on shoulders but also inspire them to go to their local club, pick up a rugby ball, get into women’s rugby and be the future Red Roses,” Aldcroft said.

The team’s success is not a signal to rest, though.Aldcroft emphasized the importance of continued competition and development, both at the club and international levels. “we’ll get a fresh look at girls coming into the squad and that’s what keeps us fresh and chasing. We’re very competitive people and we want to be at the top of our game,” she explained.

With the Premiership Women’s Rugby (PWR) season launching in late October, players will instantly return to club competition, vying for places in a fiercely competitive landscape. “we’ve won the World Cup, but in a couple of weeks we’re back in the PWR and wanting to fight for our clubs. It never stops,” Aldcroft stated.

Looking ahead, the team remains focused on pushing boundaries and expanding their reach. “We want to keep pushing and doing better and better, and that’s the same when we put on an England shirt again. We always want to push those limits,” Aldcroft added. “we have so much more to go, so many more people to inspire. That’s where it goes from here.”
