Gravity Media Delivers Cutting-Edge broadcast for World Athletics Championships 2025
Gravity Media successfully provided full technical infrastructure and operational expertise for the World Athletics Championships 2025, held at Tokyo‘s National Stadium from September 13th-21st. The event, celebrating its 20th edition, welcomed over 2,000 athletes from nearly 200 nations competing across 49 track and field events, and Gravity Media ensured every moment was captured for a global audience.
Returning to Tokyo for the first time as 1991, the nine-day competition showcased world-class athletics. A strong technical team of 68 from Gravity Media oversaw a fully IP-based production environment, leveraging the power of diPloy and Gravity Media’s scalable ST2100 IP broadcast concept.
The core of the operation featured five production galleries housed in mobile production units, interconnected by a centralized IP network management system – a proven solution previously deployed for the Opening Ceremony and Athletics competition at Paris 2024.
A dedicated Gravity diPloy flight-pack managed international feeds. This deployment, one of the largest to date, connected approximately 200 switches, operated 1,400 nodes, and handled over 9,000 audio and video streams across the IP network, originating from 310,000 unique IP senders. This demonstrates the power of IP and automation in handling large-scale, complex broadcasts.
Coverage was captured using over 75 camera channels, enhanced by Gravity Media’s specialist camera systems including a 110-metre railcam and vertical track rigs, operated by dedicated crews to deliver dynamic and overhead perspectives. Replays and content were managed by 25 EVS VIA servers feeding into the World Athletics online MAM system, while 115 intercom panels facilitated seamless communication across the production team.
to ensure a seamless delivery, Gravity Media shipped specialist equipment from brussels via sea freight and air freighted over 28 tons of broadcast equipment for timely on-site integration.
chris Demeulemeester, International Projects & Sales at Gravity Media, stated: “We’re delighted to have delivered a full suite of production, content, and media services for one of the moast prestigious athletics events on the calendar. Our cutting-edge IP workflows, specialist crews, and global-scale logistics ensured an exceptional viewing experience for audiences worldwide.”
