Galloway Township, NJ – A South Jersey actor is being held without bail following a road rage shooting that prompted a lockdown at Stockton University on September 11, 2025. Ernest Heinz, known for minor roles in film, television, and video games, faces attempted homicide charges.
The incident unfolded around 12:52 p.m. at a Galloway Township intersection.Authorities allege Heinz fired a single shot at another driver after a dispute while waiting at a red light. The case highlights the escalating dangers of road rage and its potential to spill over into public spaces, as evidenced by the subsequent lockdown of a university campus. Heinz is scheduled to appear in court again on October 31.
According to Galloway Township Police Captain Mark D’Esposito, the victim reported that Heinz cursed at her and threatened to kill her before firing the weapon. Court documents indicate the victim was attempting to merge when Heinz’s vehicle cut her off.
“As they approached the light, the male yelled at her, reached his hand out the window and fired a single shot,” D’Esposito stated.
responding officers found the victim conscious and alert with a wound to her upper nose. “Fortunately,it didn’t look like it caught anything major, and she was able to maintain consciousness and speak to our officers. We’re very grateful she’s okay,” D’Esposito said.
Police say surveillance video captured Heinz holding a handgun shortly after the shooting. Following the incident, Heinz allegedly fled to the Stockton University campus, triggering a lockdown as authorities searched for him. He was later taken into custody.
Heinz’s IMDb profile lists several minor roles in movies, TV shows, and the Resident Evil video game series. He appeared before a judge on September 25, 2025, for a detention hearing and remains in custody pending his next court date.
