Trump Alleges UN Sabotage Following Technical Issues at General Assembly Address
NEW YORK – Former President Donald Trump has accused the United nations of deliberate sabotage following technical difficulties encountered during his speech to the General Assembly on Tuesday.Trump claims issues with the sound system and teleprompter, as well as a malfunction with an escalator, were not accidental but part of a coordinated effort to undermine his address.
The allegations come as trump delivered a speech critical of the UN, and mark a renewed instance of his friction with the international organization. The claims center around three specific incidents: a reported failure of the auditorium’s sound system, a malfunctioning teleprompter, and an escalator stoppage.According to Trump, world leaders were unable to hear his speech without using interpreter headphones, and his wife, Melania Trump, seated in the front row, offered no indication she had heard anything he said. He characterized these events as a “triple sabotage” and demanded an immediate investigation.
Trump stated he will send a letter to the UN Secretary-General requesting the probe, adding, “It is not surprising that the United Nations has not been able to fulfill the function for which it was created.” he also called for the preservation of security footage from the escalator, specifically focusing on the emergency stop button, and indicated the Secret Service is “involved” in the investigation.
The UN has offered explanations for the incidents. A statement attributed the escalator stoppage to a camera from the U.S. delegation inadvertently triggering a safety mechanism. Regarding the teleprompter, the UN said it was being operated by personnel from the U.S. delegation.
