Sniper Attack at Dallas ICE facility Leaves Two Detainees Dead, One Wounded
DALLAS, TX – A shooting at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Dallas, Texas, on Tuesday, september 24, 2024, left two detainees dead and one injured, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Authorities report a sniper opened fire on the facility,prompting an immediate response from law enforcement.
The incident underscores escalating concerns regarding security at immigration facilities and reignites debate surrounding the safety of both those detained and the personnel tasked with their custody. The shooting occurred amidst heightened political rhetoric surrounding immigration policy and enforcement, raising questions about potential motivations and the broader climate of ideological tension. Ohio Senator J.D. Vance expressed his concern, stating, “We’re praying both for our ICE agents, but also for everybody who’s affected by this terrible attack.”
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons announced that all ICE facilities nationwide would be placed on heightened alert to ensure the protection of agents and civilians involved in the agency’s operations.
House Democratic leaders released a statement commending first responders and extending condolences to the families of the victims. The statement further emphasized, “No one in America shoudl be violently targeted, including our men and women in law enforcement who protect and serve our neighborhoods, and the immigrants who are too ofen the victims of dehumanizing rhetoric.” They added, “the political and ideologically-motivated violence in America has reached a breaking point this year. We need leaders who bring the country together in moments of crisis.”
