‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Production Halts After Tom Holland Sustains Concussion
Production on marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been paused for one week after Tom Holland suffered a mild concussion on set in London Friday. Filming will resume September 29, according to sources. The incident occurred during a stunt gone wrong at Pinewood studios, but no other cast or crew members were injured.
The pause in production is not expected to impact the film’s scheduled theatrical release date of July 31, 2026.Holland was examined at a hospital but not admitted. This latest installment in the lucrative Spider-Man franchise, co-produced by Sony and Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, continues a partnership that has generated $3.93 billion worldwide across three films since 2017.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), with Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige producing.Zendaya will return as MJ, joined by new cast members Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas in currently undisclosed roles. Mark Ruffalo is also expected to reprise his role as The Hulk.
The previous live-action Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, remains Sony’s highest-grossing movie ever, earning $2.05 billion globally. Released in December 2021 during the reopening of theaters following Covid-19 restrictions, the film debuted to $260.1 million domestically and $600.5 million worldwide, marking the second and third highest opening weekends of all time, respectively.
