Israeli Government Condemns international Recognition of palestinian State
Jerusalem – A wave of international recognition of a Palestinian state, including decisions by the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Portugal on September 21, followed by France on September 22, has triggered near-universal condemnation within Israel‘s political landscape. The move comes twenty-three months after the October 7, 2023 attacks.
In a nation often marked by political division, the response has been remarkably unified in opposition. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to retaliate, with any response expected after the jewish New Year celebrations and a scheduled visit to the White House on September 29 to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Netanyahu has firmly rejected any recognition of a Palestinian state, even in a symbolic capacity, arguing it would embolden terrorism. “I have a clear message for leaders who recognize a Palestinian state after the atrocious massacre of October 7: you offer a huge reward to terrorism,” Netanyahu stated in a video released Sunday evening. “I have another message for you: it will not happen. No Palestinian state will be created west of the Jordan,” he added, emphasizing his long-standing opposition to the establishment of what he termed a “terrorist state.”
