Uruguayan Fugitive ‘El Pelón‘ Claims Innocence in Nurse’s Death,Despite History of Violence
A man with a lengthy criminal record dating back to his youth, known as “El Pelón” (Machado),has released a video statement denying direct involvement in the fatal shooting of a nurse in green Beach,Maldonado. the nurse died after being shot in the chest during an attempted cell phone theft. While acknowledging he was present during the crime, Machado asserts he did not commit the murder, stating this is the reason he has not turned himself in to authorities.
Machado’s claim comes as police continue a manhunt following raids conducted last Thursday. The Prosecutor’s Office has already charged another individual who accompanied Machado on the day of the nurse’s death, alleging their participation in the crime. Investigators believe the pair went on to commit another murder in Pando shortly after. this case highlights a pattern of escalating violence following Machado’s release from custody, raising questions about judicial oversight and public safety.
In the video, obtained by Telenoche (Channel 4), Machado stated, ”I know what I do and what I do not do, as soon as I know that I am going to go with justice, but I do not have to hide myself.”
Machado’s criminal history began in 2008 with an attempted homicide, leading to a placement at the National Institute for Inclusion of Adolescence. Subsequent crimes resulted in further detention at the Institute of Children and Adolescents (INAU). He killed another man less than a month after leaving INAU in 2021. The judge who granted his freedom at that time faced sanctions following the commission of two subsequent murders.
