Cameron University to Host Renowned Pianist Hamilton Tescarollo
LAWTON,OK – The Cameron University Department of Art,Music and Theatre Arts will present acclaimed pianist Hamilton Tescarollo in concert on Tuesday,September 30,at 7:30 p.m. in the McCutcheon Recital Hall. The concert, titled “Dances, Brazil and St. Francis,” is free and open to the public.
Tescarollo,a Brazilian-Italian pianist and Professor of Music at Purdue University Fort Wayne in Indiana,will perform a program reflecting the concert’s title. The repertoire includes dance-inspired piano works, compositions by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, Franz Liszt’s “St. Francis Walking on the Waters,” and Maurice Ravel‘s “la valse” in a four-hand arrangement, featuring dr. Hyunsoon Whang.
A seasoned performer, Tescarollo has concertized extensively throughout North and South America and Europe, including recent appearances at Salle Gaveau in Paris and Carnegie Hall in New York. He is known for his versatility, incorporating both customary and contemporary pieces, with a particular focus on music from Brazil and Latin America. He is featured on three published CDs.
Beyond performance, Tescarollo is a dedicated educator. He currently serves as Director of Keyboard Studies at Purdue University Fort Wayne, and also teaches at the Interlochen Arts Camp and the InterHarmony International music Festival. He founded both the Gene Marcus Piano Competition and the gene Marcus Piano Camp and Festival.He has received Teacher of the Year awards from the Indiana music Teachers Association and the Schimmel-AZ Piano Young Artist Piano Competition, and his students have consistently earned prizes in prestigious competitions.
Tescarollo’s own accolades include top prizes from the OSESP Young Soloists’ National Competition and the Escola Municipal de Música de São Paulo’s piano competition, as well as being a finalist in the 1991 National mozart Competition in Brazil. he studied with Gilberto Tinetti and Caio Pagano and earned a doctorate in piano performance from Arizona State University.
Prior to the concert, Tescarollo will lead a masterclass co-sponsored by the Lawton Music Teachers Association, offering a learning chance for Cameron piano students and pre-college musicians in the area.
