Louise Nadeau Awarded Jacques-St-Pierre Prize for University of Montreal Contributions

UdeM psychology‍ Professor Louise⁤ Nadeau‍ honored with Jacques-St-Pierre Prize

MONTREAL – ⁢ Renowned addiction specialist and University of Montreal (udem) emeritus professor of psychology, Louise ⁢Nadeau, ‍has been⁣ awarded the Jacques-St-Pierre Prize by‌ the Association of Retired Professors⁤ of ‌the University of Montreal⁤ (APRUM). The⁢ prize, established ⁣in 2016, recognizes APRUM members demonstrating exceptional​ commitment to their career, UdeM, and​ the association itself. The award was presented at a ceremony on September 17th.

Professor Nadeau’s career ⁣spans decades of impactful research, boasting nearly 350 scientific publications and over 300​ conference presentations. Her work has ⁢focused on the ⁤complexities of ⁣addiction,particularly concerning alcohol ⁤and gambling,and ‌she‍ has been⁣ a vocal advocate for dismantling stigmas faced⁣ by women struggling with substance use.‌

Since joining UdeM in 1991, Nadeau has inspired​ generations of students,‌ earning‍ the professor prize for most student inspiration on two occasions. She also played ‍a key role in developing ⁢the introductory course to personality psychology, which received ‌the Minister of​ Higher⁢ Education Prize⁢ in Quebec in 2022.

Beyond her academic contributions, Professor Nadeau has dedicated herself to⁤ public service, serving on the boards of directors of organizations including Cepsum, the National Institute of Excellence in Health and Social Services,⁣ and the Consultative Committee for Research on HIV/AIDS and ITSS of Canada ‍Health Research Institutes. She also led Educ’alcool as chair for nearly ⁣a‌ decade and co-chaired the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction‘s group on⁢ lower-risk gambling. From 2000 to 2006,she ⁢served as vice-president ⁤of the Board of Directors of ⁤Health Research Institutes.

Professor Nadeau’s achievements have been ​widely recognized, including her election to the ⁣Royal Society of Canada (2015) ⁢and the Canadian Academy of health Sciences (2016).
