Suunto Launches RACE2 wiht Enhanced Heart Rate Tracking and AI Coaching
Tokyo, Japan – Suunto has released the RACE2, a new GPS watch boasting a substantially improved optical heart rate sensor and the launch of its SUUNTO AI Coach feature on August 11th. The RACE2 builds upon its predecessor with four optical sensors-up from two-for greater accuracy in heart rate measurements, a key benefit for athletes using heart rate data for training and competition.
The new model also introduces the free SUUNTO AI Coach, which generates personalized training plans based on user responses to 7-9 questions. This combination of hardware and software advancements positions the RACE2 as a compelling option for serious runners and triathletes.
Compared to the recently released Suunto Run, the RACE2 offers a broader range of features. While the Run prioritizes lightweight design at 36g, the RACE2 expands sport tracking from 34 to over 115 types. A key differentiator is the RACE2’s support for offline maps, downloadable via the app, allowing users to navigate terrain and routes without a smartphone.
Suunto recommends the run for dedicated road runners, while the RACE2 is geared towards those who enjoy trekking, trail running, and triathlon events. The RACE2’s battery life matches the Run’s up to 20 hours with GNSS enabled.
