TNW⁢ Events ⁤&⁣ media to‌ Cease Operations After Two decades Covering the Tech Landscape

Amsterdam, netherlands – September 18, 2024 – After 20 years at the forefront of ⁢European tech journalism and event production, TNW (The Next Web) today announced it will be winding down its Events &‍ Media division. The decision follows a sustained⁢ period of financial‌ challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the company’s⁤ revenue streams.

TNW ‍launched in 2006, quickly establishing itself as⁤ a key voice during a pivotal era of digital transformation. The company’s growth coincided with ⁢the rapid shift online, and it played a critically important role in covering and accelerating that change through its editorial content and industry events. While TNW Spaces, the ‌company’s co-working space, will continue operations, the media site will publish its final articles‌ at the end of September,‌ and the annual ⁢TNW Conference will not take place in⁢ 2026.

The move comes after the FT Group acquired ⁣a majority stake in ⁢TNW ⁣in 2019. Despite efforts to secure a sustainable commercial path in the years following the ⁣pandemic, the TNW Board resolute closure was⁤ the necessary course ‌of action.

“TNW has been the adventure of a ‌lifetime,” ⁣said TNW co-founder and board member Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten. “We started out at a unique moment⁢ in history, just as ⁢the world was moving online and everything was becoming digital. It was a thrill to not only witness that shift, but to help spark and accelerate it.”

Veldhuijzen van Zanten continued,⁤ “Over time, as digital became the norm, ‍our⁢ role felt less about breaking new ground ‍and more about ‍celebrating what had ⁤already ‍been achieved. I’m grateful we got to play our part, and‍ I’m glad we can now close this chapter with pride.”

TNW’s impact extends beyond its reporting and events. The company fostered a vibrant community of contributors and industry professionals, known for its unique voice, critical analysis, and coverage of both the successes and failures ⁢within the tech⁤ sector.

“We want to thank the contributors and community who made TNW such a special place,” the company stated. “You’ve created a unique ‍voice in tech, showcased the best of the industry, and exposed the worst. We’re sad to‍ say goodbye, but grateful for 20 years of memories and⁣ an ‍impact that will endure far beyond that.”

From the heart of tech, thank⁤ you.
