HBO Max Expands Reach with October Launch in Eight Asia Pacific Markets
Warner Bros.Discovery is extending the global footprint of its streaming platform, HBO Max, with a launch in eight Asia Pacific markets on October 15. The expansion includes Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Pakistan, and sri Lanka, alongside six other smaller regional markets. This move builds on previous rollouts in East Asia,australia,and Europe.
Subscribers in these new territories will gain access to HBO’s acclaimed programming, such as House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, and The Penguin, as well as Max Originals and Hollywood films including Superman, Sinners, and Final Destination Bloodlines. The service will also feature content from Discovery’s factual entertainment lineup (Gold Rush, Deadliest Catch, 90 Day Fiancé), family programming from Cartoon Network (Adventure time, We Bare Bears), and classic animation (tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes).
The Asia Pacific launch will spotlight the upcoming HBO drama IT: Welcome to Derry, a prequel to Stephen King’s horror universe, produced by Andy and Barbara Muschietti with Jason Fuchs. The series stars Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso, and Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as Pennywise.
The platform will arrive in these markets with a refreshed user interface, offering personalized profiles, content hubs, and kids’ accounts with parental controls. Offline viewing via downloads will also be available.
“Following prosperous launches in Australia and Europe earlier this year, the global expansion of HBO Max continues to bring unparalleled entertainment to more fans across the world,” said JB Perrette, CEO and president of global streaming and games at WBD. He added that the service aims to be available in over 100 markets by the end of 2025, with significant launches planned in Germany, Italy, and the U.K. in 2026.
