Late-Summer heatwave Grips Italy as Anticyclone Strengthens
Rome, Italy – An unusually warm spell is set to continue across Italy through the weekend, defying the approaching autumnal equinox. A strengthening subtropical anticyclone will bring predominantly sunny skies and temperatures reminiscent of July, even as September 21st marks the official last day of summer, according to the astronomical calendar.
The anticyclone’s influence will build throughout the week. Thursday will see widespread sunshine with rising temperatures, reaching 27/29°C in the Po Valley and Tyrrhenian regions, peaking at 30°C in Calabria and 33°C in the interior of the major islands. Friday promises further temperature increases, with maximums of 29/30°C expected in the Po valley, 31°C across central and southern Italy, and 32/33°C in Sardinia’s interior. Saturday will remain largely sunny, though mist and fog may form in northern plains during cooler hours, quickly dissipating with sunlight. Temperatures could reach 34°C in Sardinia’s interior, maintaining a fully summery climate nationwide.Sunday, the final day of summer, may see increased cloud cover in the northwest, perhaps bringing isolated light rain to the western Alps near France, alongside a slight temperature decrease. The rest of Italy will remain sunny with potentially slightly higher temperatures.
Citizens are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat. Air quality details is available at https://www.3bmeteo.com/aria/italia.
