RUSTON,La. - The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs women’s soccer team concluded it’s non-conference schedule with a 2-0 loss to Houston Christian University (HCU) on Sunday. The game, played at The Mack, saw both teams remain scoreless through the first half, with HCU holding a 7-4 shot advantage and a 2-2 tie in shots on goal.
HCU broke the deadlock in the 58th minute with a goal scored by a teammate after a pass from a forward who dribbled into the attacking third. They extended their lead in the 73rd minute with a grounder into the lower left corner of the goal.
Louisiana Tech’s Ashley Leonhart recorded both of the Bulldogs’ shots on goal. The loss marks the seventh consecutive match without a goal for Louisiana Tech, tying the second-longest such streak in program history.
“Today was tough as I thought, it was not our best for as far as the rest of the season is concerned,” said Head Coach Steve Voltz. “The last couple of games we’ve been playing well and just didn’t finish our opportunities; today we just didn’t create enough opportunities on the front end. Shots were pretty similar for both teams, but at the end of the day we have to do a better job creating, and I think our youth and lack of fitness today showed a little bit as well.”
The Bulldogs now shift their focus to Conference USA play, opening against UTEP on Friday, September 19 at 7 p.m. CT at The Mack.
