Continental Powerhouses Seek Medals at the 2025 CAHB African Women’s Youth Handball Championship
the 2025 CAHB African Women’s Youth Handball Championship, serving as a qualifier for the 2026 IHF Women’s Youth World Championship and the African Continental Phase of the IHF Trophy Women 2025, will see 11 teams compete in Oran, Algeria. The competition throws off on September 14th, with the final scheduled for September 21st.
teams have been divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals on September 20th, and will automatically secure their place at the 2026 IHF Women’s Junior World Championship. Africa has been allocated four berths for the upcoming World Championship.
Among the contenders, Egypt arrives as the defending champions, having won the last five editions of the tournament. Angola, three-time winners in 2009, 2011, and 2013, also returns, alongside Guinea, who were runners-up in the previous two championships.
Group A will feature a battle between Tunisia, Angola, Nigeria, Benin, Madagascar, and Kenya, with Tunisia and Angola considered the strongest teams in the pool.
Group B will see egypt, hosts Algeria, Guinea, Zambia, and Burkina Faso vying for the two semi-final spots and qualification for both the Junior World Championship and the IHF Women’s Youth World Championship.
Along with the championship competition, the event will incorporate the african Continental Phase of the IHF Trophy Women 2025. Five teams – winners of their respective zones throughout the year - will participate, including Guinea (Zone II), Nigeria (Zone III), Kenya (Zone V), Zambia (Zone VI), and Madagascar (Zone VII).
