Bucharest Driver Faces Charges After High-Speed chase, Crashing Into Parked Cars While Under the Influence
A 21-year-old man is in police custody after a late-night pursuit through Bucharest ended with a crash involving three parked vehicles and a confrontation with officers. The incident, which occurred around 2:30 AM on Wednesday, began when police observed a vehicle driving erratically on Mihai Bravu Road, between Calea Vitan and Camil Ressu Boulevard.
According to the Capital Police, officers attempted a traffic stop, activating the vehicle’s lights and sirens.The driver allegedly disregarded the signals and accelerated onto Râmnicu Sărat Boulevard,continuing to evade authorities. The chase concluded when the driver lost control near a building and collided with three parked cars.
Police state the driver attempted to flee the scene, opening the car door and causing minor damage to a police vehicle in the process. officers quickly intervened and immobilized the suspect. A subsequent breathalyzer test registered an alcohol level of 1.09 mg/l in the driver’s expired air, while a drug test came back negative.
“The behavior of the driver was deviant and endangered the safety of road traffic,” a Capital police spokesperson stated.
The driver is now being held for 24 hours on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and destruction of property. He is also being transported to the National Institute of Legal Medicine for biological sample collection. Authorities confirmed the incident resulted in property damage only, with no injuries reported.
