Taipei, Taiwan – Over 300 protestors gathered today to demonstrate against the impending demolition of the “mansion ring” and a planned underground bus route, chanting slogans and temporarily disrupting traffic. The demonstration prompted police intervention to ensure participant safety.
Organizers led protestors in chants including ”Anti-demolition of the mansion ring, anti-demolition of the bus underground road,” “Stop construction, restart negotiation,” and “Oppose filling of the underground road, I don’t want to traffic jam in the mansion,” as they circled the affected area. Police urged protestors who entered traffic lanes to return to the sidewalk, successfully concluding the demonstration without incident.
The protest centers on concerns regarding the impact of the construction projects on local traffic and the preservation of the existing infrastructure. The Central News Agency reported the demonstration took place on September 12, 2024 (1140912).
