iPhone Air Introduces post-Capture Portrait Mode to Single-Camera iPhones

Apple’s newly announced iPhone Air boasts a groundbreaking feature for iPhones with a ‍single⁢ rear camera: the ⁢ability⁢ to apply portrait‌ mode effects after a photo has been taken. Previously exclusive ‌to devices with multiple lenses ‍or computational photography capabilities, users can ‌now retroactively add depth-of-field and adjust blur in the Photos app, even if portrait mode wasn’t enabled during capture.

This marks a critically important advancement for iPhone photography,⁢ particularly for users prioritizing simplicity‍ or those who occasionally forget to activate portrait mode before pressing the shutter. ⁤The feature addresses a long-standing limitation of single-camera iPhones, bringing a professional⁣ aesthetic‍ to everyday photos and ⁣expanding creative possibilities. The iPhone Air is ⁤available for preorder now and launches september 19.

The new capability works by automatically capturing depth facts ‌alongside standard photos. This allows users to revisit images in the Photos app and seamlessly toggle portrait mode on or off, and adjust the ⁢intensity ‍of the blur effect.

according to ⁤Apple, the iPhone Air also features next-generation portraits, a feature previously ‌available on the iPhone 15 Pro. ‌The iPhone Air is ‌available for preorder and will launch next week on Friday, September 19.
