Ryder Cup Blunder: US team Features Rory mcilroy on Official merchandise
WENTWORTH, ENGLAND - The united States Ryder Cup team has suffered an embarrassing pre-match gaffe, releasing official merchandise featuring a golfer silhouette strikingly similar to European star Rory McIlroy. The $65 (£48) navy ralph Lauren T-shirt, emblazoned with “USA Ryder Cup 2025,” quickly sparked a social media frenzy after appearing on the official US Ryder Cup shop.
The image, depicting a golfer in mid-swing,bears such a strong resemblance to McIlroy that fans were quick to point out the irony of featuring a key member of the opposing team on US apparel.
mcilroy, currently competing at the PGA Championship at Wentworth, downplayed the incident, jokingly suggesting the figure actually resembled Australian golfer adam Scott. “It looks more like Adam Scott to me, which is just as funny,” he remarked to reporters on tuesday.
The PGA of America has been contacted for comment regarding the apparent oversight.McIlroy Focused on Schedule Freedom & Global Golf
The incident comes on the heels of a dramatic victory for McIlroy at the irish Open, where he clinched the title with a stunning eagle on the 72nd hole, followed by a playoff win over Joakim Lagergren. The Masters champion is currently enjoying a busy stretch, competing in both England adn the PGA Championship.Looking ahead, McIlroy has signaled a desire for greater control over his playing schedule, prioritizing events he’s passionate about and locations he wants to experience. He plans to conclude 2025 with tournaments in the Middle East, India, and Australia.
“At this point I want to play golf when I want to play golf,” McIlroy stated. “I want to play in the locations that I love to go to, I want to play the majors and the Ryder cup. that’s it. I’m not going to be going by minimums or anything else.”
Inspired by a conversation with Roger Federer, McIlroy expressed a desire to play in tournaments and locations he may have previously overlooked. “Twenty or 18 years into a career, to be able to do things for the first time… that excites me. I don’t want to be going back to the same place, the same thing 15, 20 years in a row, it can get a little bit monotonous.”
McIlroy is one of eleven European Ryder Cup team members currently competing at the DP World Tour’s flagship event. Following the tournament, the European team will embark on a scouting mission to Bethpage, the venue for the upcoming Ryder Cup showdown.
