Europe Faces Looming Imperial World Order,Regardless of US Election Outcome
The hague – A shift towards a multi-polar world dominated by competing empires – the US,Russia,China, adn possibly India – poses a meaningful threat to Europe, regardless of the outcome of the upcoming US presidential election, according to a recent analysis by Nathalie Tocci. The assessment highlights a growing concern that Europe is increasingly vulnerable to being caught between these rising powers, potentially relegated to a subordinate position.
Tocci argues that even without a second Trump presidency, the foundations of the transatlantic relationship have been irrevocably damaged.she points to a pattern of European leaders “genuflecting, pampering and conceding” to the US, exemplified by instances such as posing for photos with Trump, exchanging text messages before NATO summits, and offering symbolic gifts and royal invitations.
This perceived self-humiliation, she contends, not only fails to secure lasting benefits but actively reinforces the notion that Europe is willing to accept a colonial-style relationship, embracing a “survival of the fittest” mentality.
the analysis further notes the evolving geopolitical landscape, citing Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent meetings with Vladimir Putin and Narendra Modi in Tianjin as indicative of a more assertive stance. Concurrently,Trump’s trade war has strained the US partnership with India, potentially pushing Delhi closer to Beijing.
Tocci warns that a world of empires, characterized by transactional deals rather than shared rules and laws, would be the “worst possible outcome” for Europe, leaving it exposed to the ambitions of Russia and the US, with China poised to capitalize on the situation. She emphasizes the need for Europe to acknowledge the changing global order and proactively avoid a future where it is indeed “violently pushed down the food chain.”
