Rebecca Contus to Launch Sillamae Jazz Season in New Venue
Sillamae, Estonia – Singer Rebecca Contus will kick off the jazz season in Sillamae with a performance featuring guitarist Paul Daniel adn bassist Robert Niman. The concert marks a shift in venue for local jazz events, moving from the Great Hall of the Center for Culture to a new, as-yet-unnamed location favored by organizer Vladimir Vysotsky for its suitability to the genre.
contus first gained national recognition in estonia 20 years ago as part of Suntribe, representing the country at Eurovision with sven Lems’ “Let’s Get Loud.” Since then, she has released six solo albums characterized by deeply spiritual and introspective songwriting, ranging from intimate salon performances to collaborations with choirs and orchestras. Her latest album, released in 2024, explores philosophical themes with a surprisingly upbeat sound. Vysotsky described the album’s inspiration as stemming from “this world” – representing public life stories through a “poetic, positive and interesting” musical language. The Sillamae performance will include both original compositions and new arrangements of works by other artists.
Tickets for the concert are available for 10 euros online at https://fienta.com/ru/jazz-time-146464 and at the door.Vysotsky, who organizes the VFEST concert series, also announced plans for further jazz events in Ida-Virumaa. He intends to host several concerts in the fall and winter in partnership with the Estonian Jazz Association, and is planning larger-scale events next spring, similar to this year’s show featuring Tommy Cache, “5miinust”, “Puuluup,” and international artists Wavvyboi from Liechtenstein and Germany.
