Google’s ⁣AI Search Expansion Excludes arabic‌ Language Support

Google⁤ has recently expanded its AI-powered search capabilities with a new “AI ⁤Mode” and enhanced⁢ “AI overviews” features, but‌ the Arabic language remains ⁢unsupported in ‍this⁢ latest update. The ⁢new “AI Mode” offers an interactive, conversational search experience, breaking down complex queries into sub-questions and synthesizing answers from multiple sources – a functionality ⁢likened to using widely ⁣available artificial ‍intelligence robots. AI Overviews provide summarized‌ results‌ appearing above traditional search listings.

According to ‌Hema Bodrarago, Vice President for Research Products management at Google, the expansion focuses⁣ on building a “real global⁤ search⁤ experience” that goes beyond simple translation, requiring a nuanced understanding of local facts. She stated via Google’s official blog, “With our advanced capabilities in ‍inferring and dealing with texts and media via the allocated⁤ version ‍of ‍the Gemini 2.5 model, we are able to make ‍smart ‍research more useful and appropriate in every‌ new language we support.”

However, despite the addition of⁤ several new languages to the AI Mode, Arabic ⁢is notably absent. this omission has prompted ‍questions from Arabic-speaking users regarding ⁣when the feature will become available in their native language, particularly given its ⁣prevalence online.

Google acknowledges that the delay may stem from ⁣linguistic and technical challenges, requiring the‌ growth of ⁣more precise models capable of understanding the nuances of Arabic⁤ dialects and terminology. Currently, users in the Arab region are relying on the ⁣English version of the search‍ engine to access these ‍AI-powered ‍features, which limits adoption due‌ to the dominance of Arabic-language content in daily searches. The rollout of these AI search tools has been met with “a cautious welcome” from website owners, who have reported a⁤ decrease ⁤in website traffic, a trend Google has‌ confirmed ‍in recent ⁤statements.
