NEW YORK – Actress Martha Plimpton, best known for her role as stef in “The Goonies” and currently appearing as an FBI supervisor in the upcoming HBO series “Task,” has publicly revealed she was recently diagnosed with endometriosis. The diagnosis, she says, brought a “huge relief” after years of unexplained pain and symptoms.
plimpton,52,shared the news while discussing her advocacy for reproductive rights and access to healthcare. She explained that navigating the medical system and seeking answers for her own health struggles underscored the importance of accessible and comprehensive care for all women. The diagnosis provides clarity and allows her to better understand her body, while also fueling her commitment to supporting others facing similar challenges.
Endometriosis is a chronic condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it, causing pain, inflammation, and perhaps infertility.It affects an estimated 1 in 10 women during their reproductive years, yet diagnosis ofen takes years, with many sufferers initially dismissed or misdiagnosed.
“ItS absolutely possible to avail oneself of the tools and mechanisms to self-manage one’s own health,” Plimpton stated, echoing sentiments she previously expressed regarding abortion access. “And knowing what’s going on inside your body is the first step.”
Plimpton has been a long-time advocate for abortion rights, remaining steadfast in her support even after the overturning of Roe v. Wade. She continues to emphasize the accessibility of medication abortion via mifepristone and misoprostol.
