Agnieszka Skalniak Wins Maryland Cycling Classic Sprint Victory

Baltimore, MD – August 24,‌ 2025 ‍ – Agnieszka Skalniak-Sójka of ‌Human Powered Health secured a photo-finish victory at the 2025 Maryland Cycling Classic Women, edging out Krista Doebel-Hickok of EF Education-Cannondale in a thrilling​ sprint to the line. The ‍race concluded after a challenging circuit ⁢around Baltimore.

Earlier in⁤ the race, Henrietta Christie earned the overall mountains classification after repeatedly going clear, including a sustained effort alongside​ Danique⁢ Hengeveld.Andrea cyr won the intermediate sprint on the ⁢bell lap.

A‍ breakaway group initially formed with Skalniak, Jackson, Langley, and Marta jaskulska, later joined ⁢by Emond. ​Natalie Quinn attempted to bridge the gap but was unable‍ to join ‌the⁤ leading quintet.‍ Jaskulska was the first to be dropped on the final climb, leaving Skalniak, Jackson, Langley, and Emond to contest the ⁤win.

EF‍ Education-Cannondale launched repeated attacks in the closing kilometers, with Emond and Jackson attempting to disrupt the lead group, but ⁤Skalniak and Langley consistently responded.⁣ Langley launched ⁣a final attack before the kilometer mark, which Emond neutralized, setting up a tactical sprint. Skalniak initiated the ‍sprint,⁢ with ⁤Jackson challenging‌ in the final meters, but Skalniak held on for​ the win.”I’m so happy⁤ to finally get this first win of⁢ the season,” Skalniak said. “Ther were⁤ ups and downs this year, ‌but ⁢we rode so ⁢well as a ⁣team.I even ⁤had a flat tire ‌earlier, ‍and my ‍teammates waited for ⁢me. In​ the final, EF were attacking me all‌ the time,⁣ but ‌I kept believing in the sprint. ‍I’m really proud to take this victory.”

Jackson expressed disappointment with the result,⁤ stating, “It was a fair ‌and square sprint. I ⁤was strong, but I had⁤ a lot to manage with the moves. We rode aggressively, but I just couldn’t come past in the sprint.”

Emond acknowledged the team’s strategy, saying, “The main goal was to have numbers in the​ final, and we did that. ⁤We tried to attack until the end, but it ‍didn’t come off. We can still be proud of​ how we raced.”

Langley, ​who played a key role in the early‍ attacks,⁤ added, ⁣”I gave it everything out ⁤there.To be part of the final four and to fight⁢ for the win​ here in ⁣Baltimore is special.”
