Kyiv Attack: Infant Among Dead as Russia Strikes Capital

Child Killed as Russian Strikes Hit Kyiv, Igniting Fires Across ukraine

Kyiv, Ukraine – A child ​was among three​ people ‍killed⁢ in a Russian attack on Kyiv Sunday, as widespread strikes across Ukraine ignited fires in residential buildings and damaged⁢ critical infrastructure. The attack,which targeted the⁤ capital and cities including Kremenchuk,Kryvyi Rih,and Odesa,represents​ a renewed ​escalation in ⁢Russia‘s ongoing military campaign.

The strikes ⁣on Kyiv specifically caused partial destruction to a nine-story residential‍ building in⁢ the Sviatoshynskyi district, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and emergency officials. ⁤Drone debris sparked fires in a 16-story apartment building and⁤ two other structures. The attack ‍underscores the continued vulnerability of Ukrainian ‍civilians despite ongoing‌ international⁢ efforts to de-escalate ⁢the conflict, which began⁢ with ​Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.

Klitschko‍ reported that a child‌ was among the fatalities. Emergency services are continuing to assess the full extent of the damage and​ search for potential survivors. ​Timur Tkachenko, head ⁢of Kyiv’s military⁣ governance, stated via‍ telegram that Russia was “deliberately and consciously striking civilian targets.”

Elsewhere, dozens ‍of explosions rocked kremenchuk, causing power outages, ‌while strikes in Kryvyi‌ Rih targeted transport and ⁢urban ‍infrastructure.In Odesa, civilian infrastructure and residential buildings sustained damage,⁤ with fires erupting in multiple apartment blocks,‌ regional governor⁣ Oleh Kiper reported.

Moscow has yet to comment on the attacks.Both ⁢Russia and Ukraine maintain they​ do⁤ not⁢ target civilians, despite mounting evidence ​and a⁤ rising death toll throughout the nearly two-year-long war.

amidst the escalating threat to western ‍Ukraine,Poland activated its ⁢own and allied aircraft to ensure air safety,according to the ​Polish armed forces’ operational command.
