Moose “Emil” Disrupts Train Service in St. Pölten, Austria

St. Pölten Train Service Disrupted by Wandering Moose

St. Pölten,Austria – Train traffic on the ÖBB Westbahn route was temporarily halted Saturday evening due to a moose,nicknamed “Emil,” on the tracks near St.Pölten Hauptbahnhof (main station).Services were suspended until shortly before 1:00 a.m.

According to ÖBB spokesperson Christoph Gasser-Mair, “We had to temporarily stop train traffic because the moose on the tracks in the main train station in St. Pölten moved.”

“emil” has been roaming Lower austria for approximately two and a half weeks, believed to have traveled from Poland through the Czech Republic. Sightings have been reported in the Pottenbrunn district of St. Pölten and other areas of the state capital in recent days. A Facebook fan page, “Emil the moose,” has gained over 9,800 members tracking the animal’s journey.

Authorities are urging the public to avoid approaching “Emil.” The St. Pölten animal protection association issued a statement advising people to “absolutely avoid” gatherings to observe the moose, stating that moose are escape animals that do not require human interaction. They recommend observing from a distance and contacting authorities only if the animal is in danger.
