Lucid Secures $300 Million Investment from Uber for autonomous EV Fleet

PHOENIX, AZ – Lucid Group Inc. has landed a $300 million investment from Uber to develop and deploy a fleet of autonomous electric vehicles for Uber’s ride-hailing network. The vehicles will be built on Lucid’s EV technology platform, specifically the Lucid gravity, and assembled at its manufacturing facility in Arizona.

The first autonomous taxis are slated to begin service in a major US city in 2026. Uber anticipates scaling the fleet to over 20,000 Lucid autonomous vehicles within six years.

The partnership combines Lucid’s vehicle architecture – including extended range and luxury features – with Nuro’s Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities and Uber’s expertise in fleet management.”Lucid’s innovations and technologies are second to none, and Uber’s investment is just the latest example of a third-party validating our highly advanced technical platform,” stated Lucid’s interim CEO, Marc Winterhoff. “We look forward to further strengthening our close working partnership with Uber in the years to come, and continuing to explore new markets, opportunities, and partners that can best leverage Lucid’s leading technology.”

This collaboration positions Lucid as a competitor in the emerging autonomous ride-hailing market, offering a balance between the reliability of Waymo and the cost-focused approach of Tesla, which launched its autonomous taxi service in Texas in June with plans for expansion.
