Mumbai on High Alert Following Threat of Attack by ‘Lashkar-e-Jihadi’
Mumbai, September 26, 2023 – Mumbai is on high alert after a threat issued by an organization identifying itself as Lashkar-e-Jihadi, claiming plans to deploy 34 vehicles carrying explosives and operatives to detonate 400 kg of RDX within the city. Mumbai Police stated the threat was received on the eve of Anant Chaturdashi, marking the conclusion of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
According to police, the threat message alleges the planned attacks would result in the deaths of one crore peopel. security measures have been substantially enhanced across the state in response.
The threat emerges as the immersion (visarjan) of Lord Ganesh idols commenced on Friday, with hundreds of thousands of people participating in the processions and gatherings at immersion sites like Girgaon Chowpatty.
This incident follows a series of recent security alerts in Maharashtra.On Monday, a 43-year-old man, Rupesh Madhukar Ranpise, was arrested in Thane district for allegedly making a hoax bomb threat call regarding Kalwa railway station.
Earlier in August, the ISKCON Temple in Girgaon, south mumbai, received a bomb threat email, which proved to be a hoax after a comprehensive search by police and the bomb Detection and Disposal squad (BDDS). The temple had received a similar threat in September of the previous year.
