Drunk Truck Drivers: Arrests & Vehicle Fire in Germany

German ‍Police Halt Two truck ⁤Drivers for DUI, One ⁣Vehicle Destroyed by Fire

ROPPINGEN/LOTTE, Germany ‌- German authorities apprehended two ​truck drivers on Thursday for driving under the influence of alcohol, with one incident ‌resulting in the complete ​destruction of a vehicle by fire.

First Incident: Driver Found with High Alcohol & THC Levels

At approximately 4:50 PM on Thursday, officers from‍ the Autobahnrevier Elmshorn located a ‌truck on the A23 ⁣near Halstenbek-Krupunder, heading towards Heide.⁢ The 32-year-old Belarusian driver stated he was intending to take a break, but police suspected impairment.A subsequent breathalyzer test revealed an alcohol concentration exceeding 1.8 promille. A drug test also indicated the presence of THC. The truck was impounded, and the driver was required to post a security deposit‌ of several hundred euros. A criminal inquiry into ⁢driving under the influence is underway.

Second Incident: Truck Burns Out After Collision

later⁢ that evening, around 7:15 PM, ⁤a second incident occurred on the A1 motorway near ‍the‍ Lotte/Osnabrück junction,⁤ in the direction of Bremen. A 36-year-old Georgian truck driver collided with a concrete center divider, causing his vehicle to ⁤catch fire and⁢ burn out entirely.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported ⁣to a hospital. A preliminary breath test indicated a blood alcohol content of more ⁤than 1.3 promille,prompting a blood test and the launch of‍ a criminal investigation.

The A1 motorway towards Bremen remained closed between the Lotte/Osnabrück junction and the‍ Osnabrück-Hafen exit until Friday morning‌ for cleanup and repair work.
